The Bit Shifter at 8bitpeoples.com: Information Chase EP

031 - Bit Shifter

8bitpeoples.com is always a good link if you’re looking for rock-the-house pop-music (i mentioned Lo-Bat. and The Depreciation Guild in the first and second season). Now Joshua Davis from the inner core of the peoples released a new EP right there, and once again you probably can’t live on without banning this six tracks on your hard disk: don’t miss the Information Chase EP.

Chase Init is the first song and sort of a downtempo introduction to the EP. Activation Theme takes up the harmonic default and makes you bounce with a straight bassdrum. The song sums up nearly all elements the Bit Bhifter-music is constructed of: cute, strong melodies that never get slobbery, ecstatic straight-forward rhythms and sophisticated song-structures. Insanity lurks behind his breaks, and that’s what i like best at this EP. The first two Weezer-LPs did something similar for me…
Actually rock-music. Most of the songs allows comparisons to rather melodic indierock than electronic music (whatever ‘electronic’ might mean). Check the halftime-part in Reformat The Planet for instance. Makes you raise your fists and dance. The only difference: the Bit Bhifter uses his gameboy instead of guitars. And he adds a few BPM, or a few more. The Peoples call this EP “a six-pack of high-energy victory anthems”. Correct.

Hexadecimal Genome and The Information Chase are the bests songs on this EP, but every single track features at least one catchy element (the doubled melody at the end of Particle Charge is awesome, for example) that makes the whole recording worth to be remembered and played at your next party, looped. Hooray for the Bit Shifter!
